Jasibe Cure-Twede

Blessings

My efforts owe more to Anselm Keifer than to Will Cotton. Focusing on process, I intend to leave the traces of my thinking as a metaphor for the history of human existence. Influenced by Joseph Campbell, my mark making conveys the major themes underlining my work: memory and freedom. In response to these themes, I construct a painterly world that reflects a fraction of the real world. This automatically presents a duality between the representational and the imagined, the self-invented and the historically borrowed. As Stanley Spencer once said, "I am on the side of angels and dirt."
